Art As Repair
This body of work is a visual dance of repair, restoration and the need to mend the tattered fabric of our psyches, our societies and our world.
By incorporating hand-woven bands (band-ages), offensive historic texts (including Moral Teachings for Women c. 1887 Japan) with metaphorical objects, these art works and installations are created to perform the subtle alchemy of changing the story. Through cutting, weaving and re-combining the elements an active work of re-vision is born.
The works are accompanied by hypnotic meditations, performances and interactive workshops. People are invited to engage directly by weaving at a loom in the gallery or museum and create woven band-ages to include in the installations.
This communal connection will revive the spirit of hope and possibility. Each piece becoming even more deeply resilient through the action of and consideration of repair.
